An Academy student once commented to his father, "Academy teachers are the teachers' teachers."   In the case of Ms. Learn, that is literally true:  she has led in-services for other teachers in the areas of math, computer skills, and teaching strategies.  The Academy welcomes her broad experience with curriculum standards, assessment, and accountability.

While Ms. Learn mastered diverse teaching methods and strategies along the way, she also became intrigued by the holistic vision of Waldorf education.  With training acquired over two summers at the Waldorf Institute for Public School Teachers in California, Ms. Learn has integrated music, art, and theater by Waldorf's high standards into her classrooms for the past decade. Her respect for core knowledge and the formative role of classical languages led her to embrace classical education as well – all of which makes Kathy Learn a perfect fit for LCA..

Observers say Kathy Learn engages classrooms of any size with the enthralling skill and grace of a 'Pied Piper'.  The depth of her commitment to lifelong learning is perhaps most clearly displayed in her decision to learn Greek with Gerald Proietti in order to teach Beginning Greek in the Fall.   When asked about her goals, she offers, "I simply and humbly want to foster a deep-seated love and wonder of existence in this world and the infinite lessons it has to offer."  She is excited to realize those aspirations in classes of no more than ten students in the Academy setting.

In over three decades of elementary and middle school classroom experience in Jefferson County public schools, Ms. Learn has taught every discipline and has overseen science and computer labs.   Prior to her 'retirement' in 2006, she taught the Arts and Humanities curriculum to students in Grades K – 5 at Bloom Elementary.  But, there's nothing 'retiring' about Kathy Learn:  she was spending her weekends as a docent at the Falls of the Ohio State Park when she accepted the invitation to teach at LCA.
