Craig Emerson                          BS Pyschology, Biology &  MS  General Biology         Austin Peay State University

Craig Emerson is a doctoral candidate at the University of Louisville whose area of research is the human impact on aquatic invertebrates in the Ohio River.    He brings a wealth of personal and professional experience to his teaching of science and math in the Academy's middle grades.   His enthusiasm for environmental concerns is contagious for the students in his fifth and sixth grade Earth Science class, who are learning to observe, record, predict, and care about the world they are studying.

Mr. Emerson earned a bachelor of science from Austin Peay State University  in psychology and biology, and two masters of science degrees from the same university in general biology and in health and human performance with a concentration in community and public health education.   His teaching at Austin Peay, which included all OSHA and EPA classes for university personnel, was a factor when Mr. Emerson was named the Outstanding Graduate Student by the faculty in May of 2006.  

His teaching experience also includes CPR and first aid as a certified Red Cross instructor, as well as outreach classes in K - 6 classrooms.  Currently teaching undergraduate biology labs at U of L, Mr. Emerson has helped develop their content as a member of    the undergraduate curriculum committee.  

While he was deployed in the military as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mr. Emerson received an Army Commendation Medal for  his service in teaching classes in protection from chemical weapons.
